Spreadsheet

Programming

Excel is a very powerful tool, with a complete programming language in the background called VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).

Sometimes, formulas, graphs and pivot tables just don't cut it and we need to add extra functionality. That is where VBA comes in.

We can achieve a great deal of automation by creating a few simple scripts (or 'macros').

The great thing about this is that nothing changes. There is nothing to install; there are no updates required and best of all: it is still a spreadsheet - with all the familiar spreadsheet screens, menus and functionality.

Using VBA we can add action buttons to spreadsheets, so that one simple click is all it takes to achieve the results you need.

In this way we can also open other files/spreadsheets and import information without having to re-input any data. This is particularly important when it comes to eliminating data errors and maintaining data integrity
